News Flash Back: Introducing the new design classical concert guitar

new classical concert guitarsWe presented for the first time our new classical concert guitar at the Twents Guitarfestival of 2008.
It was a pleasure to notice that so many different players really liked the new models. This makes us proud.
Sometimes small changes create a difference.

It was a pleasure to have met with the amicable Alberto Mesirca from Italy who played a beautiful concert on Saturday the 3 May. Especially I liked the pieces from Antonio José and the end of the concert.

Alberto Mesirca

At the Twents Guitarfestival, we met with many young talents and I believe, the guitar is making a revival.
It was very popular when I started to build in the seventies (the period of John Williams and Julian Bream) but is now back again and even with greater power. This new generation of players are having it all: passion, power and technique.
Daniel Schatz from Israel played at the competition and came out fifth, but I have seen him playing off stage and I know he is a very talented young player. Another very pleasant encounter we had with Magdalena Kaltcheva. She became the second prizewinner of the competition. Magdalena who had written a dissertation about guitarmaking fell in love with our double soundhole design. Late at night around twelve we went back to the hotel to sit down together to play the new concert guitar. (Unluckily I do not have one picture of Magdalena; too busy listening and talking about guitars).

Daniel Schatz

I have received a beautiful CD called Carillon from Massimo Laura, who had also visited the Twents Guitarfestival. A CD I can recommend to everyone who loves traditional classic guitar music and is played on a Hauser from 1926. I loved that CD; it became one of my favourites. The recorded pieces are from the concert repertoire of Terzi.

I wish to express my deep respect for Roland Dyens. His concert, which closed the Twents Guitarfestival, was one I will remember for a long time.

Visiting Musikhochschule Cologne

After the Festival, we went to Cologne; we were invited to visit Roberto Aussel at the Musikhochschule to present our new guitars. Roberto Aussel had met Uwe Kropinski who plays our guitars already for so long.

Roberto liked both new instruments, but I believe he slightly preferred the more traditional guitar with the round soundhole. Roberto Aussel played on that guitar also some pieces of his new CD, that will be released around the middle of May 2008, with only music of Atahulpa Yupanqui. I was so touched to hear the music of Atahulpa Yupanqui I love so much on this new guitar./p>

Roberto Aussel

Roberto invited us to come to visit in July his guitarfestival in Nantes: "4ème Semaine internationale de la guitare."

Koblenz Guitarfestival

The day after our visit to the Musikhochschule Cologne we went to visit the Koblenz Guitarfestival. This great festival invites top players all over the world: Barrueco, Russel, Dukic, Desiderio etc...
Hubert Käppel is the driving power behind the festival. We have not seen each other for maybe 20 years but when Hubert and I were suddenly standing opposite we still recognised each other and started to smile about the situation. As if time had not past.

Hubert Käppel shortly tried one of the new guitars and invited us to meet again at the guitaracademy when there will be more time to play our guitars.

We briefly met again with our friend Marcin Dylla. And we were delighted to meet again with Magdalena Kaltcheva who played a concert at the Koblenz Guitarfestival. She had been the prizewinner of last year competition in Koblenz. The audience gave the very talented young player a standing ovation after the concert.

Bor Zuljan

Of course, we had to deliver one of the new guitars to his new owner Bor Zuljan. Bor fell in love with the instrument immediately. He admired the high quality of craftsmanship and the slightly different but more powerful sound. When I hear Bor playing, I personally wish he would also develop a career playing jazz on classical guitar. The way he plays his chords is unique; this personal touch is so hard to find, a style that reflects a quality familiar with the tradition of Brazilian Jazz.

(Professional Studio pictures of the instrument will follow)

Randy Bachman on his Scharpach Vienna

It has been a great honour for me to receive the request to build an archtop for someone who is really an icon: Someone who contributed so much and over such a big period, and still now, to pop music and jazz.

For me it is a great compliment to connect through an instrument to someone who has been written such beautiful melodies and knowing this person respects your work. Gifted musicians like Randy Bachman have such a rich knowledge about music so building a guitar for Randy was inspiring.

Twents Gitaar Festival: 1-2-3-4 May 2008

We invite you to visit us at the Conservatorium Enschede (Theaterzaal 1st floor) for the Twents Guitar Festival and discover the colourful voice of our new concert guitar. We exhibit two new designs. Use this opportunity and convince yourself.
Play yourself or ask Nadja Kossinskaja to play for you.

After many years, we have slightly changed the "plantilla". We improved the acoustic design and our Free Floating Topdesign™. The result is an even more powerful sounding guitar. Continue reading »
