I was surfing the internet one night and by accident punched in archtop guitar and way down the list that came up was the mention of Arthur Lang. I was intrigued. In the past year I had discovered and collected over a hundred German archtops which included many Langs, Rogers, Hoyers, Hofners and Framus. I grew up playing violin and when the picture of the Scharpach Vienna came up I was impressed with its beauty. I love the story of how Theo had tracked down Lang's widow and purchased the old carved tops from his shop. Wow! Could I actually get close to a new Lang guitar?
I read on about Theo Scharpach and his quest to build unique guitars and was very intrigued and impressed. So to cut to the chase, I've ordered a Vienna and am very anxious to integrate it into my jazz playing gigs and recordings. Once I get it, I'll be doing a further review of it's high points.
I also own Guitarchives Music Inc and release music by the great Lenny Breau and Howard Roberts. I'm doing an book soon on German archtops along with my friend Stephen Candib from Toronto. I have about 200 archtops and he has about 100. He's the historian and once he sorts out the histories of: Lang, Todt, Musima, Rossmeisl, Glassel, Hoyer, Hopf, etc. we'll be doing a massive photo shoot and issuing the book. We try to be better than Norbert Schneppels book in many ways. Better photos and all in color. Better histories and documentation. I will of course have website hook-ups and the Vienna and the story of how you got the wood and tops from Arthur Lang’s widow is a great story. There will be many stories like that in the book.
